Robert is a seasoned litigator with a focus on civil and commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, defamation, and arbitration. He was first called to the Bar in Malaysia in 1998, with his last attachment in Malaysia being with Zaid Ibrahim & Co, the largest law firm in the country. In April 2008, Robert relocated to Singapore, joining Drew & Napier LLC as a Foreign Lawyer/Associate Director. Upon being called to the Singapore Bar in 2011, he was appointed as a Functional Director.
Subsequently, Robert co-headed the Dispute Resolution department at a boutique IP firm in Singapore. On 1 July 2015, he established his own practice, Gravitas Law LLC, which he successfully ran for seven years. He then took on the role of Senior Regional Legal Counsel at a Dutch semiconductor multinational corporation. In August 2024, Robert joined Astute Legal LLC as a Director.

REPRESENTATIVE CASE EXPERIENCE
Corporate Work
- Lawyers for Singapore concert organisers and promoters, LAMC Productions and instrumental in drafting and/or reviewing the various contracts relating to the Scorpions concert in Singapore as well as the Guns N Roses Concert in Singapore on 25 February 2017.
- Acting for LAMC to draft Investor Agreement in relation to the Guns N Roses concert in Singapore, review, rendering advice and amending the Sponsorship and Term Agreement in relation to the Guns N Roses concert, whereby the counterparty is a prominent Singapore bank as well as review and amending the Venue Licensing Agreement in relation to the Guns N Roses concert.
- Acting for a prominent owned Swiss family-owned Salad business with numerous outlets in Singapore, to draft a software development agreement for their new app which was launched in Singapore dealing with the purchase and ordering of salads by its Singapore clients as well as drafting their franchise agreements for overseas markets namely Japan and Spain.
- Acting for a prominent German beer, Paulener Braushaus and their Singapore entity in reviewing and rendering advice relating to Contract Brewing and Bottling Agreement in Singapore.
- Rendering advice, review and amending the Master Franchise Agreement and Unit Franchise agreement for US based maths programme centre in Singapore. • Acted for Singapore artist to review and amend the Artiste Management Agreement with MediaCorp.
- Drafting agreement for co-promotion of events between a prominent Singapore boating and tour company with a prominent hotel in Singapore.
- Review, amending and drafting Introducer Agreement for a Malaysian company in relation to purchase of medical grade gloves during the pandemic by a US company.
- Acted for Malaysian company in reviewing and amending the Irrevocable Master Fee Protection Agreement in relation to purchase of medical grade gloves during the pandemic wherein the counter-parties were a BVI company and a US company.
Litigation - Some of the notable cases Robert has handled include:
- Taking action on behalf of a COO of a prominent company against defamatory statements made in e-mails by a disgruntled former employee of the company.
- Acting in a shareholder’s dispute involving family members.
- UNCITRAL arbitration in Singapore relating to disputes relating to a pipeline project undertaken by an international oil & gas corporation involving claims of over US$20million.
- SIAC arbitration concerning a leading worldwide marine solutions company in a contractual dispute.
- SIAC arbitration relating to contractual disputes and refund of rental deposits.
- Acting against prominent Hospitals and doctors in Singapore in a medical negligence matter.
- Suing an international financial institution and its former Relationship Manager for losses suffered by the former clients as a result of breaches of duty of care and misrepresentation.
- Acting for the beneficiaries in an estate dispute.
- Suing a former director for breach of fiduciary duties in making double claims.
- Suing a former partner/director and former employees of the company for losses suffered by the company as a result of the breaches of their duties and conspiracy to set up a competing company and carting away of the company’s confidential information.
- Acting for the Liquidator in suing the former directors of the company for losses suffered as a consequence of the breaches and/or wrongful acts of the former directors.
- Acting for the Liquidator in suing a company connected to the former directors for refund of payment to it by the former directors which constitute unfair and/or fraudulent preference to the connected company.
- Acting for Hollywood producers to take action against copyright infringers who illegally downloaded and shared the Oscar winning movie Dallas Buyers Club without the consent or authority of the producers.
- Drafting various agreements and contracts for the clients including but not limited to Memorandum of Understanding, Shareholders Agreement, Joint Venture Agreement, and Agreement for Co-promotion of events and Software Development Agreement.
- Lawyers for LAMC Productions and instrumental in drafting and/or reviewing the various contracts relating to the recent Scorpions concert in Singapore as well as the Guns N Roses Concert in Singapore on 25 February 2017.
- Acting for two individuals against the Monetary Authority of Singapore (“MAS”) in a first case of its kind in Singapore relating to civil penalties claim by MAS under the Securities and Futures Act.
- Acting for a prominent owned Swiss-family owned Salad business with numerous outlets in Singapore and franchise overseas for example Japan and Spain to name a few, to draft a software development agreement for their new app which was launched in Singapore dealing with the purchase and ordering of salads by its Singapore clients, drafting, reviewing and/or amending the various franchise agreements, suing for breach of employment contracts, breach of non-compete clause and breach of confidential information relating to theft of secret dressing recipes.
